Inspired by the natural environment and the peace that it offers, this collaboration is in homage to habitat. Paintings of sandhill cranes float suspended from the ceiling. Pools and Ripples of water created in clay ground us to the earth. The media of glazed ceramic, and of paintings batiked on rice paper are unique in their juxtaposition. While complementary in color and concept, one is ephemeral and the other constructed to last forever. Together we experience the illustrated moment as both fleeting, and in its continuum.
Carlene Roters and Zoe Wolfe met as colleagues teaching Art at Western New Mexico University. Carlene is known for her paintings and Zoe for her ceramic sculpture, although both love to work in other mediums. They began collaborating in the spring. With covid it was necessary to work separately in their expertise, constantly communicating for cohesiveness.
It is the hope of the artists that the installation creates a meditation of calm, and gives thought of respect for these ancient creatures and the preciousness of water.
