Blue Dome Gallery August 28th, 5pm-8pm
Multimedia and printmaking artist Beej Nierengarten-Smith introduces to Silver City her work inspired by a series of trips to India. While on her visits with her husband, James B. Smith MD, she developed a fascination for the ways in which the Indian street dogs and people interacted. She witnessed a symbiotic relationship between dogs who seemed to protect property in exchange for shelter from the locals.
Her interests inspired both the images that will be displayed and a strong desire to invest in the health and well-being of the Indian dog population. Ten percent of the proceeds for this exhibition, “The Street Dogs of India”, will go to helping spay and neuter clinics in India. This unique collection of prints, enhanced with a hand-coloring technique using oil paint and gouache, masterfully tells a story.
